Indian benchmark indices were likely to start on a slow note on Friday, weighed down by weak global cues as investors awaited crucial jobs and payroll data in the US.

GIFT Nifty futures were trading at 25,176 level around 7:40 AM, around 50 points behind Nifty futures' last close of 25,236.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 82201.16 down by -151.48 points or by -0.18 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25145.1 down by -53.6 points or by -0.21 %. On the global front, Asian markets were trading in the red on Friday ahead of key jobs data due on Friday.

The benchmark S&P 500 index and the Dow ended lower in choppy trading on Thursday after a short-lived boost from a string of economic reports faded and investors eyed key jobs data due on Friday. The Nasdaq finished slightly higher.

Markets were edgy ahead of the release of the comprehensive nonfarm payrolls data - which will likely set the stage for the Federal Reserve to begin cutting rates later this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 219.22 points, or 0.54%, to 40,755.75, the S&P 500 lost 16.66 points, or 0.30%, to 5,503.41 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 43.37 points, or 0.25%, to 17,127.66.
