Sensex down 101 points; Adani stocks drop

Equity benchmark indices opened with losses on Monday tracking mixed cues in global markets.



Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, M&M, NTPC and Bajaj Finance among others led the gains on the Sensex. At the same time, SBI, Maruti, HUL and ICICI Bank were among the top losers.



HDFC Life, Apollo Hospital, Wipro, Coal India were among the top gainers on Nifty 50 while Adani Ports, Grasim, SBI Insurance, and Hero Motocorp led losses falling between 0.5 to 2.5 per cent.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72542.4 down by -101.03 points or by -0.14 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22015.75 down by -7.6 points or by -0.03 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 72769.79 and intraday low of 72470.74 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22026.05 and intraday low of 21953.7



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1856.60,+3.04%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 144.15,+1.84%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 788.30,+0.93%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1657.05,+0.57%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 950.75,+0.48%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 261.75,-1.43%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2833.55,-1.19%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3596.00,-1.02%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6458.00,-0.85%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1621.25,-0.83%), among others.



Metal index was at 26628 up by 92.3 points or by 0.35%. Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 143.90,+1.66%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 123.10,+1.11%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 787.70,+0.86%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 771.95,+0.51%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 199.10,+0.35%),.



Realty index was at 6498.22 down by -62.36 points or by -0.95%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1003.30,-3.60%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 2643.15,-3.33%), Swan Energy Ltd. (Rs. 551.70,-3.27%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 854.00,-1.87%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2190.70,-1.34%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3259 , shares advanced were 1764 while 1333 shares declined and 162 were unchanged.
