Mid-Session: Sensex down 653 points; Nifty at 21841.6

Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 were down by nearly 1 percent around noon on March 19 amid selloff in the mid- and small-caps segments. Selling was seen across all sectors with Nifty IT leading the losses amongst the sectoral indices.



At 12:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72095.07 down by -653.35 points or by -0.9 % and then NSE Nifty was at 21841.6 down by -214.1 points or by -0.97 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 72490.09 and intraday low of 72007.35 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 21978.3 and intraday low of 21808.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6597.65,+1.46%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1751.40,+0.81%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1233.85,+0.72%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3585.05,+0.11%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1447.00,+0.06%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2483.05,-3.90%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 4021.30,-2.98%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1449.75,-2.10%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1608.80,-2.02%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 259.90,-1.92%), among others.

Bankex index was at 52690.01 up by -161.16 points or by -0.3%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1751.40,+0.81%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1447.00,+0.06%),.



FMCG index was at 18918.39 down by -382.94 points or by -1.98%. Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd. (Rs. 171.00,-4.89%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd. (Rs. 2621.85,-4.09%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2483.05,-3.90%), Honasa Consumer Ltd. (Rs. 365.20,-3.84%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1145.30,-3.48%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4003 , shares advanced were 1272 while 2570 shares declined and 161 were unchanged.
