Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty indicates a firm start; US, Asian markets gain

Benchmark indices may likely to start Wednesday's trading session on a positive note amid upbeat cues from global peers as tensions in the Middle-East (Israel-Iran) eased.



Among individual stocks, Hindustan Unilever and Axis Bank will be in focus ahead of Q4 earnings today. 5Paisa, AU Small Finance Bank, DCB Bank, Equitas Small Finance Bank, Indian Hotels, Macrotech Developers (Lodha) and LTIMindtree, are the notable companies scheduled to announce Q4FY24 results today.



Apart from Q4 earnings, and the upcoming monthly F&O expiry tomorrow the ECB will be in focus as the European Central Bank (ECB) officials are scheduled to speak and may shed light on the likely future trajectory of interest rates in the Euro region.



On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73738.45 up by 89.83 points or by 0.12 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22368 up by 31.6 points or by 0.14 %.



On the global front, Overnight, in the US, Dow gained 0.7 per cent. Nasdaq zoomed 1.6 per cent, and the S&P 500 added 1.2 per cent after better-than-expected earnings from General Motors lifted sentiment.



Near home this morning, Japan’s Nikkei rallied 2 per cent. Kospi and Taiwan surged 1.7 per cent each.



Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Steel Ltd. 30295177.00, NTPC Ltd. 14651106.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 13413530.00, State Bank of India 12292429.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd. 12074766.00,



On NSE, total number of shares traded was 61.80 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 106029.20 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 340569 with a total turnover of Rs. 31515.41 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 3323633 with a total turnover of Rs. 285852.92 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 388908994 with a total turnover of Rs. 33112822.86 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6883532 with a total turnover of Rs. 625915.46 Crore.



The FIIs on 23/04/2024 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 13322.30 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1721.38 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15941.30 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 776.80 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2619.00 Crore and Rs. 944.58
